NEW MEDINAH, Miss. – The Sisterhood of New Medinah, Mississippi, was inspired by the Sisterhood of New Orleans, Louisiana, to come together on Feb. 17, 2024, and host its first Sisters' Brunch Event in South Central Mississippi.
As stated by Sis. Florence Muhammad, our Sisterhood encompasses a strong common spiritual bond inclusive of love, honor, respect, friendship, unity and support for each other.
Sis. Saabirah Bashir reported that invitations went out, and by the Grace of G-d, the
women of faith, including Christians and Muslims, embraced the occasion with a spirit of
unity, collaboration and an earnest desire to share their gifts of beauty.
The participants arrived from the cities of Hattiesburg, Jackson and Picayune, Mississippi; Tuskegee, Alabama; New Orleans, Louisiana, and from surrounding areas. All praises due to Allah, the Most High for the great response. In attendance, the ages ranged from 11 to 92.
So we took the opportunity to create an environment that made it easy to remember the
Creator and embrace the spirit of Prophet Muhammed (PPBUH), an environment and Garden of Love, Compassion, Healing and Goodness.
To celebrate the woman within and seek Allah’s pleasure, the visiting sisters joined us in New Medinah in a spirit of relaxation and fellowship. The attendees were dressed beautifully in their African attire, as they all enjoyed recitations of some original poetry.
Sis. Saabirah educated and entertained the gathering with a theatrical presentation of
living history, which informed the audience about the lives of five women of African American descent: Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells Barnett, Sis. Clara Evans Muhammad, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Henrietta Lacks.
Our dear Sis. Tarajee Aleem expressed that the New Orleans Sisters were blessed to be a part of this Sisters’ Brunch, experiencing the warm atmosphere heightened with awesome tasting and appealing food that satisfied the soul.
Each attendee left with a gift as a refreshing memory from the hearts of the New Medinah sisterhood.
Mark your calendars and prepare for the upcoming 38th Annual New Medinah Retreat, on May 24-26, 2024, Memorial Day weekend. For this year, we will have a Sunday Session of Sisterhood bonding, with meditation and reflection on the woman within.
